If You Love Me…

A popular pigeon English adage ‘love no be for mouth’ is often said in order to remind people to express love through their actions and not just mere words of mouth. A true and sincere love should come with a strong commitment.
In the film Titanic, a young boy showed the extent of love he had for his girlfriend that even when their ship capsized, he gave her his lifejacket and carried her on his shoulder, while his entire body was submerged in Ice Sea. His care saved the young lady’s life while he died before help came. That’s love.
In John 14:15, Jesus gave us an instruction – If you love Me, keep my commandments. What are these commandments?
Loving The Lord God Above All (Luke 14:26):
Do you love the Lord above all things? There are things that will help us check how loving we are. One is our commitment. In your ministry and calling, how dedicated are you? Can God vouch for my faithfulness to him? Second one is when there is a clash between two or more events or activities, what do you do? Would you forgo worship and go for more secular event? Where is our heart?
Love One Another (John 15:12):
Do you care for your neighbor? God has loved us with an everlasting love and we ought to showcase the same love to other people. This love entails sacrifice of one’s resources – knowledge, time, money, talents and even self for the good, growth and wellbeing of other people.
Be You Perfect As Your Heavenly Father Is Perfect (Matthew 5:48):
There is a life style that proves that a believer loves God. It is lifestyle of righteousness. God bragged with Job because of his uprightness. In Job 1:8, He told Satan, ‘Have you considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that fears God, and eschew evil?’ A man cannot be living in sin and claim that he loves God. You can deceive others but you cannot deceive these three – God, Satan and yourself. Do you love God? Then keep his commandment of righteousness and holiness.
Go and Make Disciples (Matthew 28:19):
You would not enter heaven alone. Your salvation should be fruitful to other people. Bring people to the Lord through the preaching of the gospel and impacting of both spiritual and material gifts.
Pray For Your Enemies (Luke 6:27-28)
A simple definition of an enemy is someone or something that hampers your success, growth, fruitiness and joy. Jesus prayed for His killers – Lord forgives them for they know not what they do. We should pray for the conversion of sinners and the destruction and end of their evil works. Amen.
Love keeps one away from sin. It seeks the good of others. It fosters peace and good relationship. Love is known wherever he is. It never fails. If you love God keep His commandments. Shalom.
