Read: Romans 6:1-14

Let it be known to you that sin and righteousness cannot share accommodation in the same apartment! You cannot say you sin a little and do right often.

Jesus Christ came to destroy the works of the devil, the chief of which is sin. And we shared in His death for a purpose.

Actually, it wasn’t Jesus alone that died on the cross. We died with Him. How? Through baptism. Whenever anybody is baptised into Jesus Christ, that person partakes in the death of Jesus.

That body, which he or she was carrying at the time of baptism dies with Jesus Christ. Must that body die? Yes; it must die. It’s called the “body of sin or the old man.”

Why must it die? It’s because it came from the fallen man, Adam, who disobeyed God from the beginning and started sinning. Such body cannot please God. And when we died with Jesus, we died to sin. He who’s dead, don’t sin again! Does he? No.

Now, when Jesus Christ was raised from the death by the glory of the Father, we all who were baptized in Him were raised to New life. Alleluia!

Now we are enjoying a alive given by Christ, how shall we be living? The scripture directs us to do exactly what Jesus did when He rose from the dead.

What did Jesus did? He presented Himself to God and have continued to do the works of righteousness, interceding for us.

So Saint Paul directs we do the same two things Jesus did:

(1) To present ourselves to God as being alive from dead;

(2) To present our bodies (members of our bodies – eyes, nose, hand, feet, head, mouth, etc) as instruments of righteousness to God. Henceforth, we should use them only for righteous works.

In fact, let’s read that scripture again -Romans 6:12-14:

“Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts. And do not present your members as instruments of unrighteousness to sin, but present yourselves to God as being alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God.”

If you have been baptized in Christ Jesus, happy are you. This precious work has been done in your life. But you need the Holy Spirit and good knowledge to practice what Christ requires of you, yea, to live out this precious life of righteousness.

Say this Prayer

Heavenly Father, I offer my life to you as being alive from dead. I offer my the members of my body – my heart, thoughts, tongue, legs, eyes, hands, genital organs, stomach, and others as instruments of righteousness unto you.

Teach me, Guide and direct me, oh my Lord Jesus Christ. I give sin no room in my life again. I will live just as you lived. I’ll live unto righteousness henceforth. I submit all that is in and within me to your Lordship. Amen.
