The Seven Qualities of the a Life that should Pray
8 years ago Evangelical Ministry 2
Prayer is the lifting up of our hearts and minds to God. In it, we lift up the whole of our spirituality and the whole of our rationality to God. The mind is the entirety of our rationality while the heart is where our emotions rise. Thus, there is a strong connection between the prayer said and the life of the person praying, as the prayer tends to proceed from ones inward being. If there is a problem with the person, there will be a problem with the prayer said. This is the reason we must first deal with the life that is saying the prayer and bring it to the level God deserves.
So in considering the manner of person that should evoke divine answers from God, the following qualities should be considered.
1. A Holy Life (Psalm 24:3-5) – ‘a clean hands and a pure hearts,’ ‘works and thoughts.’ It means there must be a holistic holiness. Holiness is the first quality expected of a life that should pray. The scripture says that the firm foundation of the Lord is sure having this seal – the Lord knows those who are His and let those who make mention of the Lord depart from iniquity. As far as prayer is concerned, you cannot evoke divine answers while living a polluted life. Live holy for the Lord who who will answer the prayer is holy.
2. A Steadfast and Dedicated life – The Lord does not need people who sit on the fence. He needs people that are always committed. God expects every of his child to grow and remain steadfast.
3. A life that is Full of Faith (Matthew 8:7-13) – A need is easily fulfilled by a firm faith. Our faith should be like that of a child standing on a storey building and seeing his father on the ground, calls him and jumps down, with the belief that, as long as her father is on the ground, she cannot fall. God needs men with firm and immovable faith. God does not want a standby faith, a generator faith. He needs a firm faith.
4. A charitable life (Luke 6:38) – Whatever is a resource usable in the house of God need to be provided. There is something you must give to make space in your life to receive from God. And God loves a cheerful giver.
5. A Yielding Life (Luke 4:1-2) – A life full of Holy Spirit and led by Him is sure to receive God’s approval. A life that is led by Holy Spirit always receives instructions from Holy Spirit. We must carry out those instructions as led by the Holy Spirit.
6. A Humble Life (Job 22:29) – Between the Tax collector and the Republican, in the way they prayed in Luke 18:9-14, who went home fulfilled? Was it not the Tax Collector? We must approach the Lord with a humble spirit and a humble being for us to evoke His answer.
7. A Spirit Controlled Life (Luke 4:1) – Apart from the fact that Spirit of God directs, we must be under His complete control while we pray. There are some things we pray about we ought not to pray at all because they are contrary to God’s will. Our pray need to be in consonance with divine order.
The list is not exhaustive but we believe that those listed above are vital in guiding a believer in reorganizing his or her life, and build a life that will receive answers from God in the altar of prayer. God loves us and wants to answer us. But He needs clean vessels to work with.
May the Spirit of God take ownership of our lives and lead us to adjust our lives towards leading deeper life of prayer. Amen.
