(2 Kings 21:27-29)

“When Ahab heard these words, he tore his clothes, put on sackcloth and fasted. He lay in sackcloth and went around meekly. Then the word of the Lord came to Elijah the Tishbite: “Have you noticed how Ahab has humbled himself before me? Because he has humbled himself, I will not bring this disaster in his day, but I will bring it on his house in the days of his son.”

Humility is the ability of one to acknowledge one’s action, feel remorse and have a change of mind. It is a virtue. Many of us always use the very popular bible verse that “David is a man after God’s own heart” but don’t really know why. It’s because the life of David was filled with humility, he always accepted his mistakes, and also acknowledges the Grace upon the life of his subjects irrespective of their status. His people can easily access him even as a king. Today, we can’t access our leaders in the church because the anointing upon them is not attainable in their minds. What about our politicians in this present dispensation? There is no longer connection between the rich and the poor. Spiritually, believers no longer acknowledge their sins, we have become too familiar with God. Anyi na Chineke na erikozi na ofu afele… No atom of humility is found in the life of some Christians nowadays.

Ahab took possession of Naboth’s land by killing Naboth through his wife Jezebel, this evil disgusted God that he sent Elijah to proclaim the coming disaster upon the family of Ahab. When the message was delivered, he humbled himself, mourned and grieved for what he committed. Then God changed his mind.

Humility attracts God’s mercy. It changes the mind of God as in the case Hezekiah, David, Moses and others. Be humble when you err. Be humble when you make mistakes, be humble when you are a leader of God’s flocks, be humble when you are rich, be humble when you sin.

Be humble!! Be humble!!!
