“For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands.  For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline” (2 Tim. 1:6-7).

“I baptize you with water for repentance. But after me will come one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not fit to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire” (Mtt. 3:11)

Fire can represent a number of things in terms of the functions it can perform. Fire can purify, fire can stand as power, destroy things eg evil intention or contentions.

To keep the fire of the Holy Spirit burning then means to keep the ability to function as an effective Christian: with the gifts and the powers that the Holy Spirit imparts on us, the transformation we get, the wisdom and knowledge of what is good and what is bad, the discernment of what is proper and what is evil, the ability to resist the attractions of this world, the courage to witness for Christ, to correct evil, to live an exemplary life like Christ Jesus.

The world is looking for people who have resolved to follow Christ no matter the situation we face, like the little girl, Lean who said “I will not deny Jesus Christ” even in the face of death.

It is your own duty to resolve to keep the fire burning in your life, around you for people to see.
