Understanding the mystery in the blessed Trinity

Introduction:

The trinity is one of the most mystical teachings of the church. In Christian doctrine, the unity of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit as three persons in one Godhead. The doctrine of the Trinity is considered to be one of the central Christian affirmations about God. Most times, there is no accurate conclusion to understanding the concept. Of a truth, the whole Christian denominations believe in God the father, God the son and God the Holy Spirit (Trinity), yet, none could give a clear account of the mystery.

The trinity is the believe that God is one but consists of three persons. Great writers and doctors of the Church actually devoted time and energy in the theology of the Trinity, but couldn’t clinch the apogee of the discussions.

Therefore, it is a mystery to be celebrated and not to be theologized.

The Story:
St. Augustine went into logical studies to understand the trinity, but the more he thought about it, the more confused he became. He tried possible ways to postulate or formulate the teachings, he went as far as going to the River Nile for deep reflection on the mystery, but, there the Lord closed his quest for this knowledge. He met a small boy who dog a hole within the sea shore, the boy repeatedly brought water from the Nile and poured them into the small hole he made, this became a distraction to Augustine who resorted by asking the small boy what he was doing, the small boy answered; “I want to put this whole river into the small hole.” Augustine abused the child and asked him how possible it was, the small boy responded back by asking him how possible it was for you to understand what you were thinking. Right there Augustine abandoned the quest to understand the Trinity and left the book he was writing about the mystery unpunished.

In this solemnity, it is believed that in Trinity, there is one nature in God. the three persons are co-substancial, co-equal and co-eternal.

Different Heresies on the Trinity

Different theologians and great writers with wisdom began to to write and discuss to the best of their knowledge, what the Trinity is, but the more they tried, the more heretical they became.

1. Areanism: This group said it is not possible to talk about the father, the son and Holy Spirit as being one. They argued that you can’t say the father, the son and Spirit is one, but they are different Gods.

2. Sabalianism: This people said they are host of creators. They believe that the same father who did the work of creation, came down as the son to die for mankind, the same God came down as the Holy Spirit to be with men. It’s still a heresy.

3. Tritanism: They urged that the topic of discussion should be dropped as regards the teaching, but that Jesus is the father, he is the son, he is holy Spirit.

4 Butanism: That Jesus is a human being possessing numerous Charismatic gifts, they argued – how can a man born of a woman be God? That it is not possible.

5 Adoptionism: That Jesus was totally human being, his mother was Mary, his father was Joseph, but after such wonderful work he did on earth, God now adopted him as his own son. funny right!! Still heresy!

6. Partialism: That the father, the son and the Holy Spirit, each cannot be God on their own, but each time they want to be God or assume the position of God, they will come together as one, but separately, they can’t function as God.

Conclusion:
In all this postulation, none is right about the Trinity. But, if anyone wishes to know what it is, then he or she must accept the mystery as it is that God the father, son and Holy Spirit is one God. And believe with faith until we meet God face to face.
