The Spirit of the Last Days – 1 Tim. 4:1-2 (Day 4)
6 years ago Evangelical Ministry 1
“Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons, speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their own conscience seared with a hot iron.”
Be conscious of these seven arch demons with seven deadly sins: Lucifer – Pride, Mammon – Greed, Asmodeus – Lust, Laviathan – Envy, Beelzebub – Gluttony, Satan – Wrath, Belphegor – Sloth.
The last days are the days preceding the second coming of Jesus Christ. If you carefully read through the scriptures, we will see these days being described in several places in the scripture by several writers.
This shows the importance that God attached to these days and the need to get children of God to be at alert and watchful not to be overtaken by the events of the last days.
From the scripture quoted above, we see God speaking through our brother Paul to Timothy concerning some of the things that will happen in the last days and the kind of spirit that will take over the life of many in the last days.
What are the things that will characterise the last days?
Many will depart from the faith by devoting themselves to deceitful spirits: Any careful observer will notice that this scripture is already fulfilled in our midst today. Many in the church today have departed from faith and have developed for themselves the kind of faith that they want to have.
There is the common faith which Paul spoke about in Titus 1:1 and vs. 4 thus saying, “Paul a servant of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ according to the faith of God’s elect, and the acknowledgement of the truth which is after godliness,” vs 4, “To Titus, mine own son after the common faith; Grace, mercy and peace from God the father and the Lord Jesus Christ our Saviour.”
Also Jude 1:3 says, “Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.”
The faith that Paul spoke about is not the kind of faith that we find today among Christian. This faith, according to our brother Paul, is the faith that leads to godliness and that acknowledges the truth. It is the faith that contends against every ungodliness, greed, sin, evil speaking and all kinds of vices that contradicts godliness.
The type of faith that is being preached today is the type that teaches people to lust after material riches, faith to claim all manner of lies, faith never to suffer but to always enjoy, faith never to work but eat! Unfounded faith that has no scriptural basis. Faith that teaches covetousness. This is the spirit of the last days!
2 Tim 3:1-5 also cautions that in the last days, the following will be rampant:- Times of difficulty, lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents,
Ungrateful, unholy, brutal, not loving God, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lover of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having the appearance of godliness but denying it’s power.
Another opportunity has come for us to cry our for help that you may not be overtaken and swallowed by the subtleness of the happenings of the last days.
Prayer Point:
Having seen the things that characterise the spirit of the last days, begin to withdraw yourself prayerfully from those that have crept into your life, asking for forgiveness, and for the grace to resist them always. Amen.
