What is a Virus?
English dictionary defines virus in various context, but the 3 most outstanding definitions that live with human being are as follows;
1. A viral disease in the body
2. A segment of self-replicating code planted illegally in a computer program, often to damage or shut down a system or network.
3. A corrupting influence on morals or the intellect; poison.
By these definitions, virus is seen in three broad senses;
i. Biological virus
ii. Computer virus and
iii. Moral or Spiritual Virus
With reference to today’s message, the third category is picked. Just as we have virus (Covid-19 virus) ravaging the world today, so we also have spiritual virus ravaging Christians life in an alarming rate.
When we talk about spiritual virus, we simply mean sin. Sin is a virus to any child of God.
Sin is so harmful to our relationship with God. It can be by ommision or commission (Phil 3:18-19).
Sins such as lies, envy, selfishness, jealousy, malice, party spirit, unforgiveness, slandering, sexual immorality, pornography, prayerlessness, laziness, stealing, embezzlement, internet fraud, prostitution, discriminations, anger, immodest dressing and many others have eating deep the fabrics our world today. A known fact that Christians ‘re also found within the ember of these viruses.
God has a standard about sin whether the world likes it or not, no matter how they paint it, it still remain evil.
The greatest antidote or Spiritual vaccine against spiritual virus is christ himself – our greatest Physician. And the drugs which he prescribed personally can be found in his teachings.
Dealing with these viruses:
1. Study the word of God daily so that you might not sin against him (Psalm 119:11).
2. Be a constant receiver of the sacrament (Eucharist, penance – CCC)
3. Use the whole armour of God (Ephesians 6:10-18)
Conclusion:
If we don’t deal with these vices, they will obstruct our good relationship with our creator and stand the chance to truncate our salvation. May the God of peace preserve us through and through – spirit, soul and body until the coming of our saviour Jesus Christ (1Thessalonians 5:23).
