Study Verse: Hosea 11:1-9

Reflection
bread-and-cup-2
The Lord begins his narrative by telling of the love with which he has loved us. The sacrifices he made in calling a people out of burden unto his rest and peace. He then continued by stating how his people has returned his love with rebellion and sin. At this point it was only natural that destruction should be the portion of his people. Then in anger, God declares the punishment – a war that will consume them, yet well deserved. It was a just war and punishment. But in the midst of this anger and declaration of justice, his fatherhood is ignited. His love speaks and his mercy is renewed – say to him no to destruction of man; then he recoils. He recoils in love for me, as one that is seduced. One who cannot help it; but love. One whose love goes deep and eternal. Then he declares it “how can I give you up, Oh Ephraim”. This same principle works in our today reality. A clear lesson is taught here – God cannot stop loving me even if wants to. His love for me consumes and controls him; therefore I am a privileged child. Then what do I do? Shall I continue in sin and rebellion? No! Not at all! I must return to his love – with a love for him and a love for neighbor; practicing holiness daily.

Prayer
