“When he comes, He will convict the world of guilt in regard to sin and righteousness and judgment” (Jn 16:8).

The Holy Spirit will convict you so that you deal with each of your sin individually. The Spirit says to the churches,

“Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest and repent” (Rev. 3:19).

One of the major problems of man in his spiritual journey is his flesh. We allow the flesh to control us. This is made worse now, with the introduction of various technological and communication gadgets. The company we keep, the things we see, the things we laugh over, the things we assume are not able to pull us down, the things we think do not matter, the things we ignore or overlook are some of the things that affect your spiritual lives, and they limit us (you) significantly.

The spirit has come to stamp on you the mark of ownership but before that, it will expose you to your faults, make you accept them and deal with them. Sometimes, they are sins we have already forgotten. You need, like David to be careful at this stage. You either humble yourself and allow the Holy Spirit purify you like fire purify gold or you bluff it off.

The danger here is that you have refused to yield to the Holy Spirit – either out of ignorance or out of pride. David had to accept his sin and pleaded for forgiveness, asking God not to take away His Holy Spirit (Ps 51); for the Holy Spirit cannot dwell in an unclean body (temple).

The Holy Spirit cannot certify a soul and mark it for eternal life, if it did not first sanctify the soul. He does this by reminding you of your hidden faults, one by one, you therefore need to allow the Holy Spirit help you examine your life – your words, actions, sins of omission and commissions, your complacency, your concessions.

It is only the Holy Spirit that can help you overcome the flesh. His working with the power of the word of God, will help you grow and be able to work with Him (the Holy Spirit). He will possess you when you are cleaned enough. When you do not listen to the Holy Spirit or allows Him to correct your faults, you suffer for the consequences, even here on earth.

Prayer Point/meditation; Use Psalm 51

1.    Ask the Holy Spirit to search you and expose your hidden faults.

2.    Ask the Holy Spirit to sanctify you, cleanse you.

3.    Ask the Holy Spirit to create a pure heart in you and renew a steadfast spirit within you.
