YOU WILL RECEIVE THE HOLY SPIRIT
Some of us participated in the Life in the Spirit Seminar that was held last year, during which there was an outpouring. The question then is, “After one year, what do you have to show as an evidence of the power you received during the outpouring?”
The gift of the Holy Spirit is not for fun. God expects us to bear fruit with it. To whom much is given, much is expected.
When the Holy Spirit descends on you, only then can you be relevant for the kingdom. Any power you manifest without the indwelling of the Holy Spirit will not profit you for eternity.
The evidence to prove that you are a true child of God is that you are led by the Holy Spirit (Rom 8:14).
In the Kingdom business, the mission that Jesus handed over to His disciples, is the same mission we’ve been charged with today (cf. Mtt 28:18-19). And to empower us for this mission, Jesus promised us the Holy Spirit; our helper (cf. Lk 24:49).
STEPS TO RECEIVING THE HOLY SPIRIT
1. Repentance is the first step to receiving the Holy Spirit (cf. Acts 2:48).
2. Desire the Holy Spirit
3. Believe in the Holy Spirit
4. Ask for the Holy Spirit
We must learn to wait for the Holy Spirit who gives the aunction to function. Even Jesus was led by the Holy Spirit into the desert where the Holy Spirit prepared Him for the appointed time.
The bane of chrisitanity today is that men are no longer willing to wait for the Holy Spirit. Hence the altar is crowded but the power thereof is without efficacy. Today is another day when, we must wait on the Holy Spirit to manifest in the fulness of His power. We must ernestly desire the Holy Spirit in order to receive Him; remember, what you don’t desire, you don’t deserve.
It is not sufficient to desire the Holy Spirit, you must also tarry in prayer. Any great man that ever manifested the power of the Holy Spirit tarried in the place of preparation. Jesus tarried in the wilderness for 40 days, same with Moses who tarried on the mountain for 40 days.
Believers without the power of the Holy Spirit are but casual believers. And more often than not, casual believers end up as casualties.
If God opens our eyes to see the surpassing power that God has given to those that believe in Christ (cf. Eph 1:15-18), we will desire more than ever before the Holy Spirit, who will fill us with power.
SOME FUNCTIONS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
1. Boldness
2. Tongues (1 Cor 12:20)
3. Faith
4. Witnessing for Christ
5. Manifestations of the gifts and fruits of the Holy Spirit, such as prophesy, healing, joy, peace etc.
These effects are meant to equip us to win souls for God.
HINDERANCES TO THE MOVE OF THE SPIRIT
The Holy Spirit is searching for docile men whom He will possess and use mightily. One factor that limits the move of the Holy Spirit today is the dependence on experience and methods. We must learn to listen to the Holy Spirit for direction at all times.
When you are too rigid, it would be difficult for you to be led by the Holy Spirit. If you are possessed by the Holy Spirit, He will lead you in everything you do and He cannot mislead you.
CONCLUSION
The world system is looking for men that are capable, but the Holy Spirit is looking for men that are available. So long as you are available, the Holy Spirit will make you capable.
